OpenRush vs Semrush vs Ahrefs

OpenRush, Semrush, and Ahrefs are the three verified SEO connectors in Claude's directory. Here's what each one costs to turn on and what it can actually reach.

OpenRush vs Semrush vs Ahrefs

Semrush, Ahrefs, and OpenRush are the only three SEO connectors listed as verified in Claude's connector directory. That label gets misread as a security stamp of approval, so this post covers what it actually means, what each connector costs to turn on, and where they genuinely differ.

What "verified" means on Claude

Anthropic's connector directory lists both verified and community connectors. A verified connector has been tested by Anthropic for quality and compatibility against its Software Directory Policy, including functional tests of every tool the server exposes, so adding it takes one click from inside Claude instead of hand-editing a config file with a server URL.

What each connector costs to turn on

Semrush and Ahrefs both gate their Model Context Protocol (MCP) servers behind a paid subscription. OpenRush doesn't.

Built for agents, not retrofitted for them

Semrush and Ahrefs are dashboard products first. Both were built for a person reading a report, years before agents existed, and their MCP servers wrap that same dashboard-era API so an agent can call it instead. OpenRush skipped the dashboard: every tool is named around a job an agent needs done, and every response comes back pre-processed into compact, decision-ready context instead of the raw dump a chart would need.

That shows up in the numbers. In our own benchmarks, agents using OpenRush respond 40% faster and use 25% fewer tokens than the same raw upstream API, because there's less noise for the model to parse before it can act.

Only OpenRush connects your own data

OpenRush can authorize a Google Analytics property and a Google Search Console property, so Claude analyzes your sessions, engagement, clicks, impressions, and rankings through the same connection it uses for market and competitor data. That means an agent can go from "organic sessions dropped" to the specific queries and competitors behind it without switching tools.

Add OpenRush to Claude

Adding OpenRush takes three steps inside Claude:

  1. Open Settings, then Connectors, and search the directory for OpenRush
  2. Click Add and authorize the connection to your OpenRush account
  3. Ask Claude a question about a domain you own or compete with

A first query worth running:

Compare our keyword coverage against our top three competitors and
tell me which gaps are worth writing content for first.

Frequently asked questions

Is OpenRush verified on Claude the same way as Semrush and Ahrefs?
Yes. All three are listed as verified connectors in Claude's connector directory. Verification means Anthropic tested the server for quality and compatibility against its Software Directory Policy, not that it audited each vendor's security. Community connectors get a lighter screening; verified ones go through functional testing of every tool before listing.
Do I need a Semrush or Ahrefs subscription to use their Claude connectors?
Yes, for both. Semrush's MCP server requires an eligible Semrush One or SEO Classic subscription, with Pro starting at $139.95/month, and it draws down the API units included in that plan. Ahrefs bundles MCP access into its paid plans starting with Lite at $129/month, and usage draws down that plan's API integration units.
Does OpenRush require a subscription?
No. You can open an OpenRush account for free with no card on file and start querying immediately. When you need more usage, you buy prepaid credits at $10 per 1,000, and unused credits never expire.
Can OpenRush connect my own Google Analytics and Search Console data?
Yes. OpenRush can authorize a GA4 property and a Search Console property so Claude can analyze your sessions, engagement, clicks, and rankings alongside its market and competitor data. Semrush's dashboard can connect to Google Analytics and Search Console on its own, but that integration isn't exposed through the Semrush MCP server, and Ahrefs' MCP server doesn't expose either.
Which of the three should I connect to Claude first?
If you already pay for Semrush or Ahrefs for other work, connecting its MCP server costs nothing extra since it's bundled into your plan. If you don't already have one of those subscriptions, OpenRush is the only one of the three you can start using without paying first.
